It’s been a busy start to 2023 for the sea turtle community in our region! The 4th Meeting of the Northern Indian Ocean Marine Turtle Task Force (NIO-MTTF) was held in March, followed soon after by the 41st Annual Symposium on Sea Turtle Biology and Conservation in the same month. You can read about the 2023 sea turtle symposium in the report section of this issue of IOTN, and start planning ahead for the 42nd Symposium after reading the announcement of it being held in Pattaya, Thailand, in 2024.
Other highlights of Issue 38 of IOTN include an article on combining photo identification, flipper tagging, and citizen science to monitor movements of sea turtles in the Red Sea, perspectives on the holding and headstarting of sea turtle hatchlings, a note describing a hawksbill turtle captured by Nicobarese fishers in India, the launch of a new initiative in the form of The Sea Turtle Directory, and the announcement of a coordinated special issue of IOTN with MedTurtle Bulletin focusing on rescue and rehabilitation of sea turtles. We also celebrate the life of Satish Bhaskar through the memories of two of his close friends and colleagues.
